Vegetable Paintings! What?

Vegetable Paintings
Take a close look at the picture above. This is Mona Lisa, created by a different artist. But, can you believe that this Mona Lisa portrait (though not perfect as the original) was prepared from vegetables? What? I am sure that you wouldn't believe me. Read on.

This is one of the vegetable paintings prepared by Ju Duoqi, a 35-year-old Chinese artist. Ju Duoqi is currently showing an exhibition of her "Vegetable Museum" paintings in Beijing, China. Her vegetable paintings include Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, Picasso’s The Dream, and Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe.

Ju said she prepared those vegetable versions of world's greatest paintings to encourage people to see everyday objects in a different way. Because ordinary things can be classic and outstanding. She is right, but many of us have time to look at these things? Nowadays, our lifestyles are becoming very mechanical and artificial. Am I right?

Thief on Billboard
A thief in New Zealand got a big problem! He is now on a huge billboard and there is a $500 reward on his identity! Take a look at the picture above. The unidentified thief, who stole expensive fitting from billboards in New Zealand was photographed by a onlooker in October. The photographer took the picture out of suspicion, as the thief uncoupled 15 electrical transformers from a billboard of OTW Advertising, in Auckland, New Zealand.

When the photographer offered the photograph to the advertising company, Mark Venter, who runs OTW Advertising, came up with an idea to catch the thief. He mounted the photograph of the thief on four huge billboards in the city. The billboard says: "Who is this Thief? Reward $500."

The billboard company is already getting calls from different people. A police Sergent said that many people mentioned the same man as the possible thief and the police is now after him.

This is really an interesting way to catch a thief. What you say? We know what the thief is thinking now? He definitely wants to take the billboards away. But it is probably too heavy for him, as his figure is there in the billboard!

The Chinese Amphibious Car

Chinese Amphibious Car
After 13 years of hard work, a man in China is ready with his amphibious car! Yes, his car works both on roads and water. Wang Hongjun, who is an electrician by profession, often drives his odd car to the lake in Qian'an city, his hometown, to fish. Take a look at the picture.

He told the Beijing Times that his amphibious car cost him about £100,000 and 13 years of persistence to develop. After driving it to Beijing to find investors, he told the paper: "I'm looking for auto producers who are interested in my creation, since I don't want to keep it to myself."

The yellow sportscar can be sealed to make it waterproof by remote control. A column-shaped thruster and two propellers are installed in the car's boot. Wang said his car can float and drive in the water, but he refused to reveal exactly how it works. Wang claims that he has even taken his son for a 10-mile drive out to sea.

Rs.10,000 for Four Samosas!

Rs.10,000 for Four Samosas!
Indian people often want to cheat the tourists coming from foreign countries. It is proved once again by a hawker in Bihar, who charged a Dutch couple $204 (about Rs. 10,000) for four Samosas, a popular Indian snack. Can you believe this? In India a samosa hardly costs more than $0.10 and the hawker demanded $51 per piece! This happens only in India.

How all this happened? The Dutch couple were roaming around the Sonepur cattle fair in India's Bihar state when they got hungry and ordered the four samosas from the hawker. But the local hawker wanted to earn some money and insisted in broken English that the samosas were specially made of Indian herbs and had aphrodisiac qualities. After a heated argument, the couple paid the money. Later, they sought help from the local police and the hawker returned Rs. 9,990 ($203.87).

This is India! If your are planning to visit India, beware of such people.

Secret Santa donates Toys worth £9 million

Secret Santa donates Toys worth £9 million
This year, Christmas arrived early in some UK hospitals! A secret Santa had donated Christmas gifts worth £9 million to children in UK hospitals. Several truckloads of toys have arrived at Birmingham Children's Hospital and more were delivered to about 20 different hospitals.

Tracy Marsh, director of fund-raising at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said the christmas presents created a wonderful atmosphere when they arrived at the hospital, in Steelhouse Lane.

According to Daily Mail, a publisher in the East Midlands is delivering the goods and the donor wants to remain anonymous. The organizer is not doing this for publicity but to 'give something back' to society. This will definitely bring some happiness to children in hospitals.

Double-decker Graves necessary

Double-decker Graves
According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, there is a shortage of burial space in Britain and in 30 years, all burial space in England and Wales will be full. So, how to accommodate new burials? To tackle this problem, the authorities in Britain came up with an odd scheme - double-decker graves.

Yes, now human remains will be dug up and re-buried deeper to allow new coffins above. This decision was announced yesterday. This controversial move follows a Government research which found that cemeteries and graveyards will be full within 30 years.

Under the scheme, remains in old graves will be exhumed and re-buried at a deeper level in a smaller container or casket. A new coffin could then be lowered into the original space and the name of the newly-buried person could even be added to the headstone.

Tim Morris, the chief executive of the Institute of Cemeteries and Crematorium Management, says that only graves more than 100 years old that are no longer visited will be considered for the scheme.

Though it seems like inappropriate, we must admit that it is a necessary evil in the present scenario of industrialization and growing population.

Two kids with a collection of 7,500 Conkers

7,500 conkers
Two brothers in Basingstoke, Hampshire, are busy in collecting lots and lots of conkers, in a hope to get a place in the Guiness Book of World Records. Mason and Jordan Latter, aged 10 and nine, have already collected 7,500 conkers and it took them only about two weeks. Take a look at the picture above.

According to Telegraph, the conkers were originally kept in bags of 500 inside the family home. But, as the numbers grew, the odd collection had to be moved into the garden. Some of their friends also helped the boys in collecting the conkers.

Matt, 39, the father of the boys said: "Every year the boys try and collect as many as they can but this year they decided to try and collect 1,000. Then when they had 1,000 they wanted 2,000 and it just went on like that. As the collection grew they looked at the Guiness World Records and saw that there was no record for the largest conker collection. That gave them the impetus to get more and more."

Well, according to Damian Field, a spokesman of Guiness World Records, currently there is no category for 'largest conker collection.' But, he encouraged the boys to apply through the website of Guiness World Records, so that the record management team can make a decision. We hope that the boys will get a name in the record book, for their hard work! What you think?

Around the World on a Penny Farthing

Around the World on a Penny Farthing
On Sunday, a cyclist has completed a 22,000-mile cycling trip around the world on a penny farthing. Can you believe this? Cycling round the world on a penny-farthing? Is it possible? Yes, it is possible and Joff Summerfield, the cyclist, proved it by completing his world tour. On Sunday he returned to Greenwich Maket, the place from where he started the odd journey two-and-a-half year ago.

The 40-year-old, who used to work as a Formula 1 engineer, visited 23 countries in four continents after setting off from 0 degrees latitude at the Greenwich Observatory on his handmade replica of a Victorian bicycle or pennyfarthing. Cycling alone with water bottles strapped to his handlebars and with no back up, he travelled with just a change of clothes, stove, tent and sleeping bag and survived on a £5 a day.

Joff Summerfield cycled across Europe into Turkey. In India he crossed the Himalayas at 5,200m and even made it to Everest base camp. In Australia, he raced in the Penny Farthing World Championships. From China he went to Tibet, which according to Joff, was the hardest but most rewarding moments in his entire journey:

'It was so hard to travel there. There's no tarmac on the roads, There's no air to breathe. I spent six weeks in Tibet where I didn't speak English. In the villages, they aren't used to Westerners, They think you are an alien. But the people were great – super, super friendly,' he said.

Project_Seuthopolis

The round wall, 420 metres in diameter, would enable visitors to see the city from 20 metres above and would also feature "hanging gardens", glass lifts, a quay, restaurants, cafés, shops, ateliers, etc. It would be illuminated at night.

Project_Seuthopolis
The project was donated by the architect to Kazanlak municipality and funds are being raised to begin construction. On the 1st of June 2008 National Union "Treasure the Bulgarian Heritage" started the petition "FOR" Seuthopolis, in support of the project for the restoration of the ancient Thracian city of Seuthopolis. Divorce Photo Session!

divorce
Going for a divorce? What about making it special like your wedding day? What about a divorce album? Sounds odd, but it is true that an Italian photographer is offering to shoot freshly divorced couples! A photo session for a wedding-style album of your divorce. Not bad!

Gianni Fasolini, the 45-year-old photographer from Valeggio sul Mincio, came up with the idea after reading that the divorce rate was going through the roof. In fact, the demand was there.

"I advertised the offer and as soon as people found out about it they were queuing up at my shop for sessions", Fasolini said.

Thinking to do something different and to fulfill the demands of divorcing couples, Fasolini started to offer photo sessions for freshly divorced couples - them smiling or shaking hands or in some cases even kissing. Is it not a cool idea? What you think?
