Indian Woman gives Birth on Airliner

Last week, Paramjit Kaur, a 29-year-old women from Punjab, India, gave birth to a healthy boy aboard an airliner. She was on a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to the southern Australian city of Adelaide, to meet her husband.

Four doctors in the flight helped deliver the 6 pound, healthy baby aboard the airliner, which was diverted to the northern city of Darwin where the mother and the baby were admitted to the Royal Darwin Hospital within two hours of the birth.

The mother was 34 weeks' pregnant when she took the first flight of her life from New Delhi. She and her first baby, which is six weeks premature, were both well. The child's father, Jagdar Jagdar, an Indian-born Australian citizen who drives taxis in Adelaide, flew the 1,900 miles to join his wife and child at the hospital.
